Minimalist describes the composition; the design does not have to be tiny or use particularly thin lines. What should remain in the drawing?
A minimalist drawing involves choosing which elements carry the idea and which can be left out. That is a different task from making a detailed drawing smaller. A simple arrangement can give the most important feature more room.
Small, minimalist and fine line can overlap. Size, composition and linework remain separate choices.
Choose the size and placement
A long word needs a different arrangement from a compact symbol. Placement involves the visibility you want and the space beside existing tattoos. An area can be left open for future additions.
An approximate size is enough to begin. The drawing, lettering and placement determine how small a design can sensibly be. One minimum height for every text would overlook those differences.

Small and minimalist tattoo questions
Can it be my first tattoo?
Yes. Choose an image you enjoy and the visibility you want in everyday life. A larger minimalist composition can also be a first tattoo.
Can I visit spontaneously?
A suitable small design may be possible as a walk-in. Same-day tattooing depends on capacity and the work involved. Enquire first if your time is limited.
Can I bring my own small drawing?
Yes, it can be a starting point. We discuss which elements you want to keep and how they fit your preferred size and placement.
Does a small tattoo need special care?
You receive guidance for your tattoo. A small area alone does not determine the care needed.

How would you simplify a design that should be small but recognisable?
I begin with the feature that carries the idea. For a boot, that might be its silhouette; for a landscape, the mountain line. I then consider which inner lines add useful information. I would simplify details without a clear purpose before making the whole design smaller and smaller.
Do small matching tattoos have to look identical on both people?
I first look for the shared quality: a shape, symbol or detail. It can remain in both tattoos even when their size and placement differ. I then consider each composition separately. Connected designs can look different so that each person enjoys wearing their own version.

How much does a small tattoo cost?
Our price guide lists nonbinding ranges of €150–250 for tiny, simple designs and €250–450 for small, detailed pieces. Small tattoos can therefore involve different amounts of work. Subject, detail, size, placement and artist determine your individual estimate.
