Floral tattoos use flowers, leaves and botanical forms. You can choose one favourite flower, a branch or a connected composition. The subject can be drawn with fine lines, graphic contrast or painterly colour. At INTO Tattoo Studio, Lenaugasse 8, 1080 Wien, we plan the plant, visual treatment and placement together.
Start with what appeals to you: an open flower, a distinctive leaf or the movement of a branch. Several flowers can share a design; a main subject gives the composition a focus. Personal meaning can be part of the idea, and enjoying the shape is equally a reason to choose it.
Three questions help with the visual treatment:
A long branch can follow an arm; a group of flowers can make a wider arrangement. For a piece that wraps around the body, the inner and outer sides belong together. Existing tattoos and room for possible additions also influence the layout.
For a small flower, we consider which features of the plant should remain. A detailed drawing needs enough room for those features. The scope and possible appointments for a larger project are discussed using the actual design.
The gallery includes chrysanthemums connected by a flowing band by Anna aka a_graphic_ink, and a peony-and-bee composition by Cathy. Compare the arrangement of flowers, lines and open areas.
No. You can start with several plants or a preference for particular leaves and shapes. That gives us a direction to explore.
Yes. The size and layout depend on your idea and preferences. A first tattoo does not automatically need to be the smallest option.
Possible additions can be considered during planning. A later extension still needs to be assessed alongside the existing tattoo and the space available.
I choose the features that make the flower recognisable to you, such as an open centre or a distinctive leaf. In a photograph, many small structures can appear equally important. The tattoo needs a focus. With limited space, I would reduce secondary details and keep the characteristic shape.

I look at where the stem leads the eye and where the leaves open up the composition. A branch around an arm should feel connected from the side too, so I consider the inner and outer arm together. Possible future additions influence where I leave open areas.
